ED Visa in Thailand

When applying for a ED Visa there are seveal things you need to consider. In this section we will go through each of them, and we will take a look at the application procedure aswell.

What is the ED Visa concept?

The idea behind the ED Visa is that it will allow you to stay for en extended period of time in Thailand while studying the Thai language. The ED stands for Educational. It is important to underline that this is not just a "Visa Mill". When you enroll in a school and receive your ED Visa you will actually have to attend classes. The ED Visa is valid for 1 year, and can be extended for 2 more, giving you a total of 3 years.

Before you apply for ED Visa

First we will need to apply for a letter from the Thai Ministry of Education requesting a one year ED visa for you. It takes between 4 to 6 weeks. At the same time you need to enroll on the language course.

Applying for the ED Visa

When the application is finished, you will have to travel to one of the Thai Consulates outside Thailand. Please note here that you have to actually leave Thailand and when your application has been approved, you can re-enter Thailand, using the ED Visa. Most nationalities can go to Myanmar, Laos, Combodia or Singapore. Some nationalities like Indians, Chinese, Pakistanis and middle eastern countries will need to go back to their own country. Please see the Disclaimer. There are many different consulates, and we can reccomend one that has a record of being friendly with granting the ED Visa.

Entering Thailand

When you enter Thailand using the ED Visa, you will have to come to our office and start attending class. It is important that you report to the office as soon as possible, because there are more paperwork that has to be done. Also you will have to go to the Immigration Office at Chaeng Wattana Road to renew the Visa every 3 months. The price for this is 1.900,00 thai bath. We will also provide you with the correct paperwork for smooth processing at the Immigration Office.

After you have received your ED Visa

With this visa you will need to come back to us and we will apply for a second letter from the Ministry of Education certifying your enrollment. This letter allows you to make 90 day extensions at the local immigration office for the duration of the course. No visa runs are required at all. Every year we will need to obtain for you a new letter from the Ministry of Education. We need at least 6 weeks to process it. With this letter there is no need to leave the country in order to obtain a new ED visa. You need to renew your one year course if you want to continue your study here.

Prices

These are the price for our services:
200 lessons delivered in a period of 6 months: 24.960,00 thai bath
400 lessons delivered in a period of 12 months: 39.970,00 thai bath
When you buy either 200 or 400 lessons, we will do all the paperwork relating to the ED Visa. There are no further fees payable to us.

Disclaimer:

It is important to understand that we cannot gurantee that you will get the ED Visa when applying for it. It is solely at the discretion of the Immigration Officer that processes the application to either grant or reject the applicant.

The thai government is continually revising their policies regarding Visas. Please note that the information on this page may be outdated. I will do my best to keep it updated. Please contact me for the latest updates.

Students from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Southern Asia countries (eg. India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan), Middle Eastern countries (eg. Irag, Iran, Kuwait, Jordan, Saudi Arabia) need to apply for ED visa at Thai Embassies / Consulates in their home countries. Please contact me if you are unsure about this.

Visa Updates

Saturday 17/1-15: The government has deceided that you need to study at least 8 hours a week to obtain a one year ED Visa. To get the one year visa you will need to buy the 400 lessons pack. If you buy 200 lessons you will be granted a 6 month ED Visa.
